Few steps to connect laptop to my Smart TV

There may be times when you would want to show a funny video to your friends and family on the larger screen of a Smart TV. But what happens when the video is available on your laptop? If you don’t know how to connect your laptop to the TV, then we are offering some tips that you need to know about connecting your portable laptop, phone or tablet to your TV.

By connecting it wirelessly
Smart TV
If your flat-screen TV is a smart model with support for DLNA media streaming, then you can send films, photos and other media files directly to it without any hardware. Simply find the right app on your TV to get the content.

You will then require an appropriate app for laptop/mobile that permits you to send or stream content using DLNA. There are simple solutions like ALLCast for iOS and Android. This lets you display locally stored media as well as media hosted on other local DLNA servers, or in the cloud via support services that include Dropbox, Google Drive and Instagram.

You can also operate a VPN, or virtual private network, to encrypt your connection and stream content from anywhere in the world. ExpressVPN, for example, provides for Mac, PC, and Linux apps.

A wireless device to mirror display

You don’t require a smart TV model to mirror your device’s screen on your TV. You can achieve the same effect by purchasing a smart box. There are options here, both of which connect into your TV via an HDMI port.

If you’re operating within the Apple ecosystem, then the Apple TV 4K lets you stream media as well as mirror your Mac or iOS mobile’s display on the big screen.

Optionally, Google’s Chromecast is inexpensive and works in many devices-Windows, Linux and Android, as well as Mac and iOS. You can play media files from your device using a range of supported apps. Chromecast also works on laptops via the Chrome web browser and Google Cast add-in. When it is installed, press the Cast button to the right of the address bar to choose what to cast and where to cast it.

Physically connect laptop to my TV

You need an HDMI cord to connect the laptop to TV as it supports both audio and video

Connect my Mac TV

The MacBook models need a USB Type-C adapter to connect them to your TV. Apple gives a Digital AV Multiport Adapter, but in case you want a simple USB-C to HDMI connection at high definition quality, you can make do with a cheaper Anker USB-C to HDMI Adaptor.

Display the content when laptop is connected to TV

Sharing your laptop to your TV with the right cord is only half the battle. You also have to switch your TV to the correct input, plus setting your laptop or Mac to re-route its display through the TV. This may be done by default, but if it doesn’t you will have to configure the screen through the manual method.
